Chetan Kumar S is Sr. Director of Engineering Mavenir System, building products for 5G technology. Before Mavenir, Chetan was Co-Founder and C.E.O at AiKaan Labs, which Ather Energy acquired. At AiKaan labs, Chetan and his team were building a machine intelligence-driven application orchestration and device management for edge computing. Chetan is a tech blogger, author, and global speaker. Chetan has over 20 years of experience working at networking giants like Cisco Systems, Juniper Networks, Alcatel-Lucent, and startups. He was one of the lead investigators in Cisco’s pioneer award-winning encrypted traffic analytics. Chetan obtained master's degree in engineering from the Indian Institute of Science, and bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Mysore. Has (co-)authored 8 papers published in various international conferences and proceedings, and proposed two internet drafts to a standards body. Has four patents in voice-over IP, Netflow, and Edge computing. Talk - Edge AI, for next generation AI applications ?

28.77 million terabytes of data are generated every day, according to the latest estimates. The AI tools like chatGPT are evolving at an exponential rate to be able to process this huge amount of data and create insightful results. The next-generation AI applications might need more than the cloud AI model. The applications might need real-time decision-making. Edge AI, on the other hand, brings AI processing closer to the source of data, enabling faster decision-making, reduced latency, and increased privacy and security. This talk will explore the potential of Edge AI. This talk we will explore the next-generation AI applications and their requirements. We will try to understand the need of compute resources for these applications and look at the relevance of Edge AI.

Speaker Information

Matt attended undergraduate school at Alma College. In 1999, he received his PhD in Physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), located in Troy, NY. During his dissertation research, Matt worked with General Electric to help develop electronic material manufacturing processes for high frequency RF applications. After graduation, he was able to join full-time and worked on a variety of efforts from electronic packaging to wide band gap semiconductors. Matt later led a large research program developing technology in photonics, more specifically ultra-fast optical communications and three dimensional optical storage materials and systems. Matt was also Lab Manager for the Electrophysics and Materials organization, where he initiated new efforts in bio-electronics and monitoring applications. Matt currently has the position of Principal Scientist with a research focus on Digital Twin anc specifically computer modeling/simulation of physical assets, using physics and machine learning nethods. He is leading several programs that combine machine learning, advanced controls theor and domain knowledge to create a new layer of cyber-security for critical infrastructure assets called igital Ghost. Current applications include natural gas power generation equipment, pipeline compressor stations and large-scale pipeline systems. Dr Nielsen has 42 filed and 27 issued patents. He is a Six Sigma Master Blackbelt and TRIZ Level 3 certified.

Talk - Digital Ghost - A New Layer of Cyber-Physical Security for Natural Gas Power Plants (Authors: Matthew Nielsen, Masoud Abbaszadeh, Subhrajit Roychowdhury, Justin John)

GE's Digital Ghost, which acts in addition to common IT/OT cybersecurity methods, monitors an asset's behavior comparing it to sophisticated computer models called Digital Twins. The internal algorithms within the Ghost will alert the asset operator and cybersecurity specialists if a malicious attack or physical fault is underway. Additional Ghost features can indicate the point of attack within the ystem and in some cases provide a layer of resiliency by neutralizing the effects allowing the asset tc continue operating through an attack. GE will describe the basic principles behind Digital Ghost and give operational examples, including a demonstration test using a 500+ MW gas turbine.

Prof. Subir Kumar Saha, a 1983 Mechanical Engineering graduate from RE College (Now NIT), Durgapur, India, completed his M. Tech from IIT Kharagpur, India, and Ph. D from McGill University, Canada. Upon completion of his Ph. D, he joined Toshiba Corporation’s R&D Center in Japan. After 4-years of work experience in Japan, he has been with IIT Delhi since 1996.
He is actively engaged in teaching, research, and technology transfer. He completed sponsored projects and consultancies worth about Rs. 14 crores (~ USD 2.0 millions). Prof. Saha was awarded the Distinguished Alumnus Award for 2020 in Academic and Research by NIT Durgapur. He established the Mechatronics Laboratory at IIT Delhi in 2001, and contributed significantly in the development of the Programme for Autonomous Robotics during 2010-16 with the funding from BARC/BRNS, Mumbai. As a recognition of his international contributions, Prof. Saha was awarded the Humboldt Fellowship in 1999 by the AvH Foundation, Germany. He was Naren Gupta Chair Professor at IIT Delhi during 2010-20, and presently acting as the Project Director of IHFC (a non-profit company of IIT Delhi in the area of Cobotics). He has been also visiting faculty at IIT Madras, and short-term researcher at McGill University, Canada, Monash University, Australia, and University of Verona, Italy.
Prof. Saha published a text book in 2008 on “Introduction to Robotics” published by McGraw-Hill in India and Singapore. It was also translated in Mexican Spanish. To aid the learning of robotics, RoboAnalyzer software was developed in 2009 under his supervision. He also co-authored several specialized books published by Springer, e.g., 1) “Dynamics of Tree-type Robotics Systems” supported with ReDySim (Recursive Dynamics Simulator) software; and 2) “Dynamics and Balancing of Multibody Systems.” He has more than 200 research publications in reputed journals/conference proceedings, and delivered more than 240 invited/keynote lectures in India and abroad.
Prof. Saha’s two special interests are: 1) “Connecting Engineering Minds with the Society”, which he pursues through a lecture series called MuDRA, i.e., Multibody Dynamics for Rural Applications (delivered 70 times since 2007); and 2) Making engineering education industry-relevant, which he propagates through another lecture series “Robotics2Rural---Innovative Teaching and Research Approaches” (delivered 85 times since 2012). He has a fiction book in his credit “RoCK-BEE” published by www.pothi.com. The book was translated in Bengali.
Prof. Saha occupied several administrative positions at IIT Delhi. He was the Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering during 2015-18, Associate Dean of Students during 2009-12, Vice-Chairman of GATE/JAM/GMAT examinations during 2008-09, President of BRCA during 2010-11, and others. Presently, he is the Coordinator of the Rural Technology Action Group (RuTAG) at IIT Delhi, a programme sponsored by the Office of the Principle Scientific Adviser to the Govt. of India. Prof. Saha is the Vice-President (Academic) of The Robotics Society (formally known as Robotics Society of India), and National judge of the DD-Robocom competitions in India since 2005. During 2008-15, he was the Vice President of the Association of Machines and Mechanisms (An IFToMM body in India). His philanthropic interest spans over last two decades. Prof. Saha introduced awards/prizes in his school (Vidyasagar Vidyapeath in Midnapore, West Bengal), R.E. College (now NIT) Durgapur, DD-Robocon competitions, and Robotics club at IIT Delhi.

Janamejaya Channegowda received the Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum, India, in 2010, the M.S (By Research) degree in electrical engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, India, in 2013, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering majoring in power electronics and motor drives from the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, Oshawa, ON, Canada, in 2018. From December 2012 to July 2014, he was a Research Associate with the Power Electronics Group, Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. Dr. Channegowda was a Member of Technical Staff at Macdonald, Dettwiler and Associates (MDA) Corporation in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec, Canada. He was part of the Antenna Pointing Mechanism Electronics Team at MDA Corporation till November 2018. He was an R & D Engineer at ARDA Power, Toronto, Canada, till July 2019. He was working at M S Ramaiah Institute of Technology as an Assistant Professor till September 2022. Currently he is working at L&T Technology Services as a Technical Lead in the transportation unit.

Talk - A Cyber-physical System Approach Towards Robust Battery Management Systems for Transportation Electrification Applications

Electric Vehicle (EV) fleets have dramatically expanded over the past several years. There has been significant increase in interest to electrify all modes of transportation. EVs are primarily powered by Energy Storage Systems such as Lithium-ion Battery packs. Total battery pack capacity translates to the available range in an EV. State of Charge (SOC) is the ratio of available battery capacity to total capacity and is expressed in percentages. It is crucial to develop reliable Battery Management Systems for effective voltage and health monitoring of these battery packs. As the transportation industry electrifies most of its fleets there is a massive amount of data generated from various onboard systems. This data-driven approach demands a robust Cyber-physical System architecture to maximize available range in an EV. This talk will focus on understanding batteries and commercial battery management systems for electrifying vehicles.

A R Karthikeyan's academic background is with BE(ECE) where he started with signal processing as his career, best outgoing student of ME(Wireless Technologies) under TIFAC-CORE programme of DST, PhD(Communications) at IIT Madras where he built his theoretical skills. With the interest and goal of seeing and building an end-to-end product from scratch, he had worked as individual, team/project lead, Group Lead. His passion started with participation in R&D sponsored projects from DEAL, Dehradun & RCI, Hyderabad. He has actively contributed in building Zigbee prototype, LTE (4G Modem), Precision Approach Radar(PAR), Object Classification in Automotive Radars, Life Presence Detection & Classification. He has passion for cars, driving, concerns for the safety of driver and general public. With radar as his domain, his goal is to build products for safe and improved user experience.

Talk - Radar Sensing Challenges & Opportunities for next 10 years

Historically Radar System had been associated with defense applications. This is no longer a status quo with the rapid development and scale of applications in the past decade. With the advancement in mmwave technologies, miniaturization, there had been rapid innovation in the areas of 1) Waveform Design, RF front end design, interference handling, algorithm development at scale with use of Machine Learning approaches.
The development in the past decade, more specifically in Automotive industry for Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) had seen phenomenal growth in innovation and large-scale adoption. There are millions of sensors deployed in vehicles saving lives with automatic Emergency Break Assist (EBA) and Cruise Control (CC) functions. There are still lot of design and application problems to be solved.
